Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves. Philipians 2:3

WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN TO SERVE THE LORD?

WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN TO SERVE THE LORD?

“And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it
unto the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matt. 25:40).
God needs absolutely nothing from us (Acts 17:24-25). However, it is common to hear a
Christian say: “I serve the Lord.” By this statement said Christian means that he is living a life separate from sin. That interpretation is totally contrary to what the Word of God teaches. By living separate from
sin we are not serving anyone.

It is simply to our benefit to keep ourselves from God’s judgement. There
is no heroism in not throwing oneself in front of on oncoming train.
In the above Scripture the Lord tell us what it truly means to “serve God.” Many are the
Christians who will experience a tremendous disillusionment on the day of the Lord (Matt. 25:41). They
justify themselves today by pointing out that they are living a life separate from sin. This moves them to
make comments such as: “I serve the Lord in my house. I sing, pray and read the Bible there.”
However, they are in no way serving God’s “little ones” (James 2:14-17 and 1 Jn. 3:17-18).
Today is the day to truly live “the pure religion and undefiled before God” (James 1:26:27). Which group
are you counted in? Are you one of those who simply keeps themselves separate from sin or are you one of
those who is truly serving others?
